24K, 22K, 18K — what the karat means for your offer
Pure gold is 24 karats. Every karat below 24 is an alloy. Indian jewellery is almost always 22K or 18K. A lower karat means less gold per gram — which is why purity testing matters so much.

A short checklist — for your benefit
Carry a valid government photo ID and PAN card.
Bring hallmark certificates or original bills if you have them — they help, but are not required.
Do not melt, polish or chemically treat pieces before the visit. XRF reads natural metal; polishing can affect surface readings.
Keep loose stones separate from the jewellery if possible.
Ask which gold rate is being used — it should be today's MCX spot price, not an internal rate.
