Documents Required When Selling Gold in India
RBI guidelines, IT rules, and KYC requirements — a concise checklist of exactly what you need to bring.
Selling gold in India is regulated to prevent money laundering and tax evasion. The documentation requirements are simple — but knowing them in advance saves time on the day. The process itself is straightforward: see our full guide on how to get the best price when selling gold.
Mandatory KYC documents
- Any valid government photo ID — Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID or Passport
- One recent passport-size photograph
- Address proof if your ID address differs from your current address
For transactions above ₹2 lakh, PAN is mandatory as per Income Tax rules. Always bring your PAN card for any significant sale.
Original purchase bill — helpful, not mandatory
The original purchase invoice (kacha bill or jeweller's receipt) can speed up the process and may marginally help with purity confirmation — but it is not required. XRF testing verifies purity independently of any paperwork.
What happens with your details
Buyers are required to maintain a register of purchases for compliance purposes. Your ID details are recorded against the transaction. Large cash transactions above ₹10 lakh may be reported to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) under PML Act obligations.
Quick checklist
- ✓ Government photo ID (Aadhaar preferred)
- ✓ PAN card (mandatory above ₹2 lakh)
- ✓ One passport-size photo
- ✓ Original bill if you have it (not required)
- ✓ Bank account details for NEFT/RTGS payment
That is genuinely all you need. No NOC, no affidavit, no hallmark certificate required. If a buyer asks for anything beyond this list, ask them to cite the specific regulation. Ready to sell? Book a visit with EasyGoldBuyer — we handle everything at your doorstep.
